These vary according to ship and size. The newest and largest ships (Costa Atlantica, Costa Concordia, Costa Fortuna, Costa Magica, Costa Mediterranea and Costa Serena) have more space and better facilities, while the others (Costa Allegra, Costa Europa, Costa Marina) have only basic facilities.
Spa/fitness facilities are staffed and operated by Steiner Leisure, a specialist concession, whose young staff will try to sell you Steiner’s own-brand beauty products. Some fitness classes are free, while some, such as yoga, and kick-boxing, cost $10 per class.
However, being aboard will give you an opportunity to try some of the more exotic treatments, particularly some of the massages available. Massage (including exotic massages such as Aroma Stone massage, Chakra Balancing massage and other well-being massages), facials, pedicures, and beauty salon treatments cost extra – massage, for example, costs about $2 per minute, plus gratuity.
Aboard Costa Concordia and Costa Serena, Samsara Spa accommodation grades benefit from Oriental-themed decor and Samsara bathroom amenities, and 12 Samsara Suites have direct access to the Samsara Spa facilities and special packages and concessions. To use the sauna/steam and relaxation areas aboard some of the ships, you’ll need to buy a day pass, for e35 per person.
