Celebrity Equinox

In 2006, Celebrity Cruises ordered three 118,000-ton ships, a new class of ships for Celebrity dubbed “Solstice class.” All three are being built in Germany by the well-known shipbuilder Meyer Werft, who has built most of Celebrity’s previous ships. The first ship, Celebrity Solstice, is to be delivered in fall 2008; the sec-ond ship, Celebrity Equinox, is scheduled for summer 2009; and the third, as-yet-unnamed ship is to be launched in 2010. The new ships will measure 1,033 feet in length and 121 feet in width

and carry 2,850 passengers, based on two passengers per cabin. Celebrity says their larger size will allow for larger standard cabins and a significant range of services and amenities inspired by input from past passengers

and travel agents. Approximately 90% of the accommodations will be outside, and 85% of those will have balconies. According to Meyer Werft, the new ships will incorporate Celebrity’s tradition of breakthrough design and innovations. Celebrity estimates the cost of the ships will be approximately $245,000 per berth, based on current exchange rates.
