Did a stay in Barbados then the cruise then back to Barbados - cruise was wonderful - Stopped at a place called Sam Lords Castle supposed to be an all inclusive 3 or4 star - really crap place falling to bits - lousy service, slow, unhelpful, food was below average - drink was a one barman job - so slow slow and slow service - also did not think too much of Barbados as a whole, st Lucia far better or US Virgin Isles.

It would seem that, most unfortunately, you experienced Sam Lord's Castle when it was rapidly going downhill. The place is now a total abandoned wreck, soon to be a ruin -much to the chagrin of all historically-inclined locals! The truth is that, under Marriott, it was being well run...until Marriott sold it to a local car-parts dealer(??!) who has since run it into the ground! So much for 'local' management expertise, but what did we expect from a car-parts dealer? Two months ago I went through the grounds and the dereliction is unreal, horrific even! We locals pray that someone with deep pockets will save it from ruin, which is clearly where it's headed as things stand now! So sorry this coloured your stay here, but how could it not? Maybe you'll give us another chance to show you the better side of Barbados.

Have just done such a cruise with Celebrity on their new ship Solstice and it was great. We don't like going all that way for a 7 day cruise, even if you add in another 7 in a hotel it is not the same. We were concerned about doing a back to back and the immigration problems at the USA side of things but we got our new seapass the night before and in the morning we went of the ship after the other guests had left and the immigration officer just took our passports and handed them back he didn't even open them up and then back onto the ship to relax whilst all the new cruisers starting boarding. Some who were doing the back to back took the option to go ashore and come back on around 12 noon. I should have said we had been given along with our new seapass a Transit pass so we could go off the ship if we had wanted to. The reason we got a new seapass is our second week was a new contract as the ship only officially did 7 day cruises, so hope this gives you some needed info ...Bill
