Food fit for a Princess!

So if you have been reading my blog recently you will have known I was lucky enough to spend 3 nights with the Caribbean Princess last month. So this week I want to tell you about the dining we experienced on board, and I have officially decided Princess are “feeders”. In all my years of cruising I dont think I have ever eaten as much a i did on those few days, my colleagues nearly had to roll me home.

Over our weekend  we were treated to 3 different culinary hotspots to really give us a feel of what they could offer their guests. Our first night we enjoyed a lovely Mediterranean inspired 3 course meal in the main dining room i chose a delicious goats cheese soufflé , Lamb cutlets and a sampler dessert . Both food and service was excellent with a relaxed feeling throughout our first night whilst getting to know our academy hosts.

On the second night we were welcomed to Sabatinis which is a Italian based al a carte restaurant which has a $29 per person cover charge, out of the three night this was the menu i was probably least looking forward to however on the night i was pleasantly surprised with the choices i made.

Sabitinis Restaurant

My hand formed goats Cheese lava centre was my top pick of the menu. It was amazing very similar to buffalo mozzarella but more creamier. I also had  the braised rib pasta and lobster for main. Overall i enjoyed Sabatinis but unsure whether i would personally choose to eat here, although i would say for seafood lover this would be  perfect .

Our last night was spent in the Crown grill steak house and by far we had saved the best for last. Our whole experience was amazing. Once again the cover charge is $29 per person and in my opinion worth every cent.

For starter I had the best ever  French onion black and blue soup. This dish is always a good pick for me but this had a lovely twist of a layer of break over the broth with grills cheese on top. WOW i could really eat that right now.

Black and Blue Soup

Historically I am not a Steak lover and wouldn’t normally order a steak but for main i came out of my comfort zone and ordered the fillet mignon along with garlic and herb fries and asparagus. I must say i think i may have converted as this steak was the most amazing dish i have ever had. On top of this we were encouraged to try anything else on the menu we wanted , they even lined the centre of the table with lobster and lamb cutlets. Once again along with the amazing food the service was second to none. Nothing was too much

Dessert is always my favourite part of a meal but choosing is never fun, however on this menu they have a fantastic miniature versions of all their top desserts with the option of having your favourite slightly larger and it was  simply amazing. But please don’t ask me to choose the best one I just can, they were all fabulous.

Our last evening was one to remember beautiful food, perfectly selected wine and restaurant ambience and of course amazing dinner company with my fellow cruise dotties and Princess hosts. we really couldn’t have asked for a better end to our trip.

Along with the evening dining experience there are a couple of other i feel very important highlights. Afternoon tea in the plaza was a lovely treat, although an American ship they offer a fabulous silver service with fresh sandwiches, warm scones and cream plus a mouth water selection of cake. This is free of charge and can also be orders for room service to your cabin.

Aside from al a carte fine dining Breakfast and Lunch located in the horizon buffet area was full of fantastic variety with favourite such as eggs benedict, American pancakes, fresh fruit etc. Lunch times also offer the option of two fast food venues on the Lido deck you can enjoy either homemade fresh pizza or a visit to the gill to enjoy Burgers, hotdogs with fries. We tried these on one of the lunch times and it their burgers were great they had a good choice for those wanting a simple bite to eat around the pool.

So after  returning 5 stone heavier than when i got on board, you can now see why i say Princess are feeders. I am off now back to my dry Rivita’s in a bide to get over all that food. If you would like to know more about Princess cruises or my experience you can call me on 0330 303 8260 or email me at mariet@cruise,co,uk.

Join me next time for the final part of my trip where i take you behind the scene to explore where exactly those automatic gratuities go.

Until then

Marie
