Bare Necessities of cruising………..
When it comes to writing blogs for you, I always like to have a little look at what you, our customers are talking about and this week whilst reading the forum I came across this thread…………………..
Topless sunbathing on P&O
I was quite surprised seeing quite a few women sunbathing topless on the top deck on our recent cruise on P&O. Maybe this has always been the case and I just haven’t noticed before. I do remember on Ocean Village there was an area where it was allowed. My husband commented about all the frying fat! In the past in on the beach in the South of France where it is the norm I have been known to take my top off but I wouldn’t do it now and no ton a cruse ship. Would you?
And I can honestly I have never come across this question before, and not being partial myself to going topless in public I have never really thought to ask the question.
Are there rules about topless sunbathing on cruise ships, or is there a unwritten rule of cruise etiquette that relates to this?
There was a time when cruise lines didn’t mind topless sunbathing however I think these days it is more frowned upon due to cruise lines being alot more family friendly. However saying that, some cruise lines such as Royal Caribbean have topless decks on certain ships, and MSC have Tanning areas which are away from the main pool area and secluded so no one is to be offended.
Others mention the like of Carnival do not have a designated area anymore but common etiquette for guests is that this kind on sunbathing is generally in the quite area behind the ships funnel.
NCL are very clear and state in their Guest Conduct Policy that “topless sunbathing is not permitted”, whilst Cunard ask anyone who wishes to sunbath topless do this on their own private balcony.
So I have learnt something new today…………….
Do you think cruise lines are right in making designated areas for guests to get an all over tan?
Or do you think much like Cunard that this should be done in the privacy of your own balcony?
Do you have a funny story relating to the “Bare Necessities of cruising”?
Let me know you thoughts and stories.
Until next time
