A tick for my bucket list!

This week here at cruise.co.uk we have celebrated the 1st anniversary of our exclusive Bucket list holidays. Over the last 12 months we have created a new kind of “tour and cruise” packages which all include an amazing escorted tour experience such as The Snow monkey’s and Mount Fuji in Japan, Terracotta Warriors and Giant Pandas in China, Explore Machu Picchu in South America  plus many many more.

Most of us have our bucket lists itineraries or experiences which we aim to fulfil if we are lucky enough throughout our lives , and recently during our holiday to Florida and after maybe 28 years i finally ticketed off my no. 1 bucket list dream and swam with a Dolphin.

As a child I was obsessed about Dolphins, I loved everything about them. I spent many hours drawing pictures of them, exploring facts about them and even refused to eat tuna after my research lead me to how many were hurt when caught in tuna nets. I remember seeing them in various Sealife shows and over the years during our travels to USA it was something we held off booking until our children were old enough to all do together, and this year our youngest daughter was 6 and finally old enough.

For those who haven’t been before, Discovery cove is an tropical resort in Orlando close to and owned by Seaworld. The park homes Dolphins, tropical fish, Otters, Stingray, small mammals, tropical birds and  small sharks. Entrance into the park includes all wetsuits, towels, lockers, food, drink, suncream, snorkelling and depending on your ticket the swim with the dolphins. As add bonus when you buy the ticket you also receive complimentary tickets for 14 day to Seaworld and Aquatica which is fantastic value.

We got there really early on the day, on arrival we were meet in the entrance to book in we chose a early morning slot to swim with the dolphins. After a quick family photo we went straight to breakfast which had a fantastic variety of food lots of fruit, cereals, muffins, hot and cold buffet.

Ready for our day we made our way over to the lagoon where we would have our swim, it was beautiful the setting is so lush and tropical you could be on any Caribbean island.   We are taken to a hut where we were given a safety talk but the trainers, given time to answer any questions before we were lead out to the pool.

Our swim lasted for about 25-30 minutes, in nice small groups we were allowing to stroke the dolphins, have a cuddle and they pulled us through the lagoon. My daughters were fascinated and the trainers answered all their questions about the dolphins life. Being the first group down our dolphins were very playful and did lots of funny and cheeky tricks. They explained to us that each dolphins only does between 3-4 meet and greets a day. Overall the whole experience was amazing I found myself extremely emotional during the swim as my dream had finally happened and I will never forget that moment.

After our swim we had the rest of the day to explore and relax. As a family we  spent hours snorkelling through the reefs with the tropical fish and sting ray. My daughters loved seeing all the different fish and coloured coral. The whole day there was trainers in the water to make sure us and the animals were safe and to tell us all about the species we were swimming with. What we found throughout the day is that the staff were so passionate about their job and marine life they never tired of talking to us about it.

My youngest Ruby very brave with the string ray.

I found a new little feathery friend.

We all have a fantastic day at Discovery cove, fulfilling my life long dream. So what is on your bucket list? For more details and a full list of our bucket list trips you can find our full brochure here.
