It has been announced that Royal Caribbean have placed an order for 2 new ships to join the 25 existing ships in the Royal Caribbean fleet. They will join the fleet in 2022 and 2024 but before that we have 2 more Oasis Class ships and 2 more Quantum Class ships to come out so some exciting years to come for Royal Caribbean!

We haven’t had much details on what or how the new Icon Class will look but I imagine they will take inspiration from the Oasis and Quantum Class! They will 5,000 passengers so slightly less than the Oasis Class but the Gross Tonnage is yet to be announced so they could try and topple there record of having currently the largest ships in the World.

It has been announced they will be powered by liquefied Natural Gas – LNG which is the latest craze in the Cruise world as P&O recently announced they will have a new ship in 2020 again powered by LNG and this is set to follow across over cruise lines.

Royal Caribbean are set to test this new fuel cell technology on the on an existing Oasis Class ship due to launch in 2017 and amongst the new Quantum Class ships yet to come out, with the aim to remove the smoke from the smokestacks.

So what do you think? What could Royal Caribbean do with the Icon Class to entice you to cruise with Royal Caribbean?

On another note Celebrity have two new ships coming out – not much has been said about them so maybe we could see them powered by liquefied Natural Gas? Who know’ s the cruise world is growing so fast and with more and more ships I definitely think this is the way to go to ensure that the larger ships are not damaging the environment.

Let me know what you all think?
