P&O sell Adonia! – scroll down for info on new Cunard ship (25.09.2017)

P&O Cruises confirmed that it is selling the Adonia in March 2018.

“We are pleased to expand our portfolio by 50%, allowing us to visit even more regions of the world through the acquisition of this sister ship,” said Larry Pimentel, President and CEO of Azamara Club Cruises. “Our loyal guests and travel partners have asked for this expansion for a long time; we are very pleased to deliver this to them.”

The Azamara Pursuit “is comparable in size to the Azamara Journey and Azamara Quest”, the company said in a statement. As such, the company will be able to maintain its destination immersion in smaller ports.

P&O Cruises SVP Paul Ludlow said: “During her time with us Adonia has captured the hearts of many thousands of P&O Cruises guests. She has ventured into new ports of call around the globe and has negotiated Icelandic Fjords, European rivers and Caribbean coves. We will ensure that these discovery itineraries are continued on other ships in the fleet.

“With almost six months until Adonia leaves the fleet, we will ensure that each of the cruises in her final season with us are extra special and celebratory.”

P&O said that guests booked on any Adonia cruises after March 2018 would be contacted directly either by P&O or their travel agent.

The Adonia is a former Renaissance Cruises ship, along with the Azamara Quest and Journey. The line went bust in 2001. Other Renaissance ships are sailing for Princess and Oceania.

PRESS RELEASE FROM CUNARD

Cunard Will Add Fourth Ship To Its Fleet
Latest investment underpins the company’s continued growth ambitions for world’s most iconic fleet.
New generation of ship announced on 50th anniversary of launch of legendary QE2.
September 25, 2017: Luxury cruise brand Cunard today announced it is adding a fourth ship to its fleet. This investment is part of the company’s ambitious plans for the future of Cunard globally.
Carnival Corporation & plc – the world’s largest cruise company and parent of the Cunard brand – has signed a memorandum of agreement with Fincantieri S.p.A., Italy, to build a new ship that will join the Cunard fleet in 2022.
The as yet unnamed ship will join Queen Mary 2, Queen Victoria and Queen Elizabeth as the fourth member of the Cunard fleet, the first time since 1998 that the luxury cruise brand will have four ships in simultaneous service.
The iconic and unparalleled luxury cruise brand is going from strength to strength, having seen crowds of more than one million people gather in 2015 to celebrate the company’s 175th anniversary. Cunard has subsequently invested over £120 million refurbishing the flagship Queen Mary 2 and Queen Victoria.
Alongside an array of exciting new itineraries featuring new destinations and special event voyages for 2018 and 2019, Cunard has also continued to evolve the guest experience to meet the needs of the luxury consumer by introducing new bar and dining signatures, entertainment offerings and brand partners across the fleet.
Simon Palethorpe, Senior Vice President, Cunard said: “We have only recently marked the 50th anniversary of one of Cunard’s much loved ocean liners, the legendary QE2. What
better way to celebrate her important role in Cunard’s past than by announcing our commitment to Cunard’s future with the commissioning of a new ship. Cunard offers unrivalled luxury ocean experiences and the new ship firmly underpins our plans to continue our growth across international markets.”
Cunard will be revealing exciting details about the new ship during the course of 2018 and through to the ship’s launch.
Statistics:
 The new 113,000 GRT (Gross Registered Tonnage) ship will carry 3,000 guests and will be launched in 2022
 This will be 249th ship to fly the Cunard flag
 Cunard’s first new ship in 12 years, since the launch of Queen Elizabeth in 2010
 The first time since 1998 that the luxury cruise brand will have four ships in simultaneous service

Le Boreal rescue operation

Teamwork Prevails

Late last night (UK time) we had news of a Captain overboard from a yacht in the Atlantic.  Nearby ships scrambled to assist in the search and a photograph of the ships circling the area was posted.  In this instance, the lucky person was found alive and rescued thanks to the help of the ships, Quantum of the Seas, NCL Sky and NCL Gem.

Well done guys – fantastic teamwork.

Breaking News for NCL

Breaking news today that NCL’s Kevin Sheehan has stepped down after 7 years at the line.

Sheehan has shaped the way NCL are today and I’m sure will be missed.  Read the full details here

Let me know your thoughts. What direction do you think they should take NCL in?

Did he really just do that?

We all know how strict cruise line crew are for the benefit of everyone’s safety.  So why someone would do this and think they can get away with it is beyond me!

Ruby Falls in Tennessee

Tennessee is a popular destination for music lovers with Memphis and Nashville being the most popular places in the State for tourists.  But did you know you can also visit this magnificent sight?  This is Ruby Falls and has been a visitor attraction for over 80 years.

In 1928, Leo Lambert and a team of excavators found a breathtaking waterfall located over 1,120 feet below the surface of Lookout Mountain in Chattanooga, TN. Lambert named the falls after his wife, Ruby, and opened the area as a public attraction in 1930. Today, Ruby Falls welcomes thousands of visitors each year.

Bangkok Market must watch:

Passenger trains  have passed through this market 8 times a day for the last 30 years. The market is located in Thailands smallest province about an hours drive from central Bangkok.

It’s a way of seeing the typical Thai lifestyle whilst being a very unique experience for tourists.  It’s a common fresh market for Thais in the area but you get to see a great variety of goods, vegetables, fruits, meat, fish, frogs (!!), sweets, curry and flowers sold along the way.  The market is only 300 meters long along the train track.

Have you been here and witnessed this amazing scene first hand? Or looking to travel to this part of the world? I’d love to see this first hand but not sure I’m brave enough!

Fancy visiting Bangkok?  Take a look at these great offers: http://goo.gl/2j2D7t

St Maarten Airport

Have you flown into St Maarten or been to this beach?  These take offs and landings must take some skill from the pilots.  And as for the people standing on the beach……they must be brave!  This must be quite a sight to see first hand.

This is Maho Beach in St Maarten. Arriving aircraft must touch down as close as possible to the beginning of the runway due to the short runway length of 2,300 metres resulting in aircraft on their final approach flying over the beach at minimal altitude.

Due to the unique proximity of low flying aircraft, the location is very popular with tourists and plane spotters.  Watching aircraft pass over the beach is such a popular activity that daily arrivals and departures timetables are displayed on a board in most bars and restaurants on the beach, and the one venue has a speaker on its outside deck that broadcasts the radio transmissions between pilots and the airport’s control tower!

A lot of cruise liners visit St Maarten – see here for more details: http://goo.gl/sfWcQd
