Security is increased on river cruises

Part of the charm of a river cruise has always been that onboard access is easy-off, easy-on, and that ships, which range from 100 to 200 passengers are very intimate where staff know you by your name and there are no security screening machines when you get on. It doesn’t mean that there was no security at all as Some of the procedures that have been around for years include reception desks that are staffed at all hours and night watchmen for enhanced late-hour security. When ships are docked in port, entry doors are locked. Now some lines introduced a new photo security program so when you first embark, they take a photo of you in the same way that most ocean cruise lines do and the photo then is on your key card for your cabin. Other security measures are locked security gates to get on board where an entry pass code is required which is given on a daily basis for passengers to get in or out of the ship.Passengers are already seeing more staffers stationed as security to ensure passengers crossing ships keep moving. And it might well be that simply walking through other riverboats to get to your ship could become more difficult: Some cruise lines are requiring passengers to cross via connecting top-level sundecks, which typically are only accessible via a steep set of stairs. This could well reduce access on and off the ships for travelers with mobility issues. As well as maintaining a good level of security I think River cruise companies need to still keep their intimate atmosphere which is different to ocean liners and not to put passengers off as one of the main reasons they are doing this cruise is for that.
