Back to Cuba

The US government’s historic agreement to end more than 50 years of diplomatic freeze between the two countries has put Cuba firmly on the travel bucket list. That means cruising to Cuba will be permitted. It’s mainly the US lines as a few British liners are already sailing to Cuba such as Thomson and Star Clippers, but now the mainstream lines such as Carnival Cruises and Royal Caribbean will feature Cuba on their itineraries, it’s very good news to the cruising market. Since the collapse of the Soviet Union Cuba’s economy has struggled and this combined with the US embargo are still very much evident. Although Cuba’s focus is now on tourism to ensure its future prosperity, the country is a law unto itself when it comes to quality of hotels, food, service and transportation. Lots of cruisers now will be interested in going to Cuba as normally not featured before with the majority of the cruise lines so they will have the opportunity to see that fascinating country that seems in a time warp. I would love to visit and can’t wait for new itineraries to arrive. Watch this space.
