Owners Suite

The Independence of the seas has had it’s make over and has been refurbished whilst in dry docks throughout April. As you read this I would have spent my first night on board.

I have been on the Independence of the seas before but this was way back in 2008 and it was a travel agent pre-inaugural sailings for two nights. I can still remember it so I’m really looking forward to being on this ship again. I like the Voyager and  Freedom class of ships from Royal Caribbean. They just feel bigger as they seem longer. Whilst I appreciate I have visited the Symphony of the seas and the Harmony of the seas, they appear to be going bigger in height. A lot of the action seems to be at the back of the ship. I like these classes as the promenade feels bigger and when you can walk around the ship or from one end to the other on more than just one deck it gives you the impression it’s a longer ship.

I loved the Symphony and would holiday on that ship but I do prefer this class. i really do feel that everything was at the back of the ship and to me that seemed really busy, where as this class, the ship has everything spread out from front to back.

I also like the fact that it has a roof on it. Yes, the Symphony and the Harmony are open at the back and you can actually get wet on Boardwalk should it rain. So, I do like a roof over my head.

The Independence has had quite a big change and from the new deck plans a lot more cabins have been added. Not sure I am a fan of this. I don’t like the idea of, oh there’s  space lets fill it with cabins. You want to have a sense of space regardless of how big the ship is.

This isn’t a travel agent event and I am going aboard as my own little 3 night holiday break. Just myself and my wife. We’ve treated ourselves to an Owners Suite. Yes, the 2nd highest grade on board with the next grade up being the Royal Suite. I’m quite looking forward to this, having a nice Gold Sea Pass card and enjoying all the perks and benefits of being a suite guest. It’s only 3 days so I’ll have to make the most of it.

Early boarding, breakfast in a speciality restaurant and in room dining it can’t be bad. I’m sure to take lots of photos and will blog about my experience in a couple of weeks time so do check back and see how I got on.
