Round Round Round The Boat….

There has been a rumour going around the travel agent circuit that Royal Caribbean is planning on introducing a new dining concept on board Anthem of the Seas.

On the Quantum Class of ships, the much loved cruise line introduced the Dynamic dining, which basically means passengers can go to any of the complimentary restaurants at any time they wish in the evening.

The new concept did not go down too well with some passengers. They complained that they experienced long delays getting into the restaurants and that they felt the service was not up to par….Consequently, it was decided that it would be postponed on board Oasis and Allure of the Seas indefinitely.

The new concept on board Anthem of the Seas is rumoured to be a rotational system similar to Disney Cruises whereby you change restaurants every evening. Your fellow table mates and waiters will travel round with you to dine at each complimentary restaurant.

Looking at reviews online it seems a lot of passengers (especially loyal, repeat customers) would actually prefer the traditional dining with set sittings, and for those who wish to do the flexible dining, book the anytime dining option which is offered on majority of their ships. Passengers who generally prefer a more flexible style tend to go for Norwegian Cruise Lines, as they are completely freestyle.

I think on a Royal Caribbean ship it would get far too hectic on the rotational system and they have admitted that the Dynamic Dining wasn’t really working, so why not stick to what the customers like and what the staff are good at? Disney Cruises have done this for years and the ships are not as big as some others… On a ship the size of the Anthem I can imagine it getting incredibly stressful navigating your way to somewhere different every evening to arrive at a set time. I have been on many ships and my co-ordination and navigational skills are somewhat limited, so I am unsure if I would like it… I would need to allow myself a good half an hour to make sure I was in the right place at the right time and that means probably missing out on a pre-dinner cocktail which is totally not acceptable in my books!

What do you think? Would you like this new rotational system or do you like the more traditional dining? Please share your comments!
