Danger on cruise ships!!

Looking at the facts this is one of the most difficult articles I have had to write and I’m sorry to give you the crude truth but it’s holiday time and I would like to remind adults to be extra vigilant this summer in swimming pools, especially those without life guards

Unfortunately, all cruise companies but one have no life guards on board and as the problem continues and we have more victims caused by pure accidents. The only cruise line who taken extra care on this subject is Disney cruises since 2013 after a 4 year old nearly drowned and now suffers from brain damage. All the rest have no life guards on board.

Since then there has been way too many more:

In 2013, it was a 6 year old boy on a Carnival Victory

In May 2015, a 10-year-old girl drowned on the Norwegian Gem.

In December 2015 an 8 year old boy drowned on Royal Caribbean’s Liberty of the Seas

In June 2016 it was an 8 year old boy on the Royal Caribbean Anthem of the Seas

….and who knows how many more around the world would have lost their lives in hotels and wherever else

I have read many articles where young children are victims on board cruise ships and many reviews of people who condemn parents of careless behaviour not watching their children whilst accused of being selfish of enjoying their holidays too much. I find all these reviews so unfair to the parents who have to deal with such a tragic loss or having to deal with the consequent problems for the rest of their lives. Nobody wants such a thing to happen of course. I am a mother of two and I couldn’t bear the thought of getting close to anything like that and the thought of what some families are going through gives me great sadness. I don’t know how people can be so mean and react this way without even knowing the facts.

I personally watch my children and never lose them out of sight, I always make sure they are safe and supervised at all time. I’m not naive to think I’m the best or everybody is the same and I’m not trying to give a lecture. What I really want to do is divulge the information you may already know but don’t think about. Unfortunately, media doesn’t talk about these tragic events but these happen more often than we think.

We all know how easy it is to get distracted by giving the attention to one child and losing it for the other child. Meanwhile the other child could run right towards the swimming pool without you knowing. This could happen within seconds and by the time you turn around 5 or 10 seconds may have gone past and that child could be already in the pool.

Way too many cruises are marketed as family friendly but not enough safety measures are taken in consideration to keep children safe so please keep vigilant and if you see anyone close to danger don’t ignore it and offer help.
