Celebrity Cruises and Norwegian cruise lines have unveiled their new class of ships which took place in Miami

Celebrity described the design of its next generation ship as revolutionary and transformational

The vessel will carry 3000 passengers will have virtual balconies staterooms that we have already seen on latest Royal Caribbean’s ships.

The Magic carpet is the new wow on board the ship and will be spectacular. Inspired by Magician Richard Fain who is already behind innovations such as Central Park on Royal Caribbean Oasis class, the North Star observation pod on Quantum of the Seas and the real grass lawn on Celebrity Solstice class. More details will come with later announcements

They will be improving the process of getting passengers into tenders to be carried ashore developing a 90-ton construction the size of a tennis court that rises from deck 2 to deck 17 and will be used as a bar and restaurant too

Bookings are open already but the Edge is being built in France and will make its maiden voyage in December 2018. This is the first one of the four ship that will be built for this class. Celebrity beyond follows in 2020 and the other two will arrive in 2021 and 2022

There will be a total of 1467 stateroom 176 of which will be suites. For the first time they will be accommodation for solo travellers with 16 single cabins so an advance booking is a must if want to grab any of these few on board

A couple of famous names stand out from the project. We have the British designer Kelly Hoppen who is responsible for the ships interior, architect Tom Wright who was responsible for the Burj Al Arab and the Jumeirah beach resort complex in Dubai. This has been renamed Resort deck and most of the sun loungers are placed to look out to sea rather than inwards to the pool.

Celebrity is also working on a smartphone app allowing to remote control to ordering drinks and unlocking cabins doors without key card

Norwegian project called Leonardo will see four ships delivered between 2020 and 2025. These will be smaller designs than the recent Breakaway class. The vessels will carry approximately 3300 passengers. Like the MSC Seaside class and the Edge the ship will have an open promenade on board allowing the outdoor living and sea views from most angles. The ship has been built in Italy in Ficantieri shipyard and the order is estimated at $3.2 billion

There is an increase of demand year on year and the business carry on expanding. Beautiful ships and great revolutionary designs can’t wait to see them in person
