Victory for the cruise lines

Great news for the cruise industry as it seems the ban of large cruise ships entering Venice has now been lifted.

Last year a decision was made by the Italian government to ban all cruise ships over 90,000 tons from sailing from Venice over concerns that it would case environmental damage to the world heritage listed city.

A court has now ruled there is no evidence to support this and that alternative routes for the ships to reach the terminal have not  been agreed.

This decision will be welcomed by the cruise lines who have always dismissed concerns that the cruise liners can cause damage to the environment or that another Costa Concorida disaster could occur.

Venice is one of the most popular destinations on the European itineraries and many customers add a pre or post cruise hotel stay to their cruise so I am sure the locals also welcome this decision for their economy.

I am sure they will continue to battle this out but in the meantime it seems the cruise lines have won.
