No more smoking on Cunard or P&O balconies

Times have been getting harder and harder for smokers in recent years.

A lot of cruise lines have already banned smoking on private cabin balconies but up until now P&O and Cunard cruise lines have allowed this.

It has now been announced that P&O and Cunard are following suit and banning smoking on private balconies.

The bans will come into effect from dates in Spring 2014 as I will list below, for people that have already booked there isn’t a lot they can do about this.

I have only quit smoking myself personally for over 3 months so I have mixed opinions on the subject.  While we all agree that smoking is very bad for health I think that people that choose to smoke should be allowed to do so as long as it isn’t adversely effecting the non smokers.  I agree with the ban on enclosed public areas but surely private balconies is a bit much.  I understand that the smoke can blow across, its a shame that we can’t just rely on communication and manners to resolve these issues anymore.

I think they should have a certain amount of balconies that are allocated as smoking as not to disturb the non smokers.  This could be another tactic for Cunard and P&O’s Getaway and Vantage deals.   They could say if you want to pick a smoking cabin you have to book on the Vantage fare, although that would also mean non smokers booking on a getaway fare would then risk being in a smoking balcony, hmm I don’t know how well that would go down.

I wonder how long it will be before smoking is made illegal ?
