Amsterdam to move Cruise Terminal

Amsterdam is a popular cruise destination and has plenty there to see and do. Although I have visited many times I have only sailed into Amsterdam twice, once on the Fred Olsen Balmoral and once on the Azamara Quest.

One of the great things about Amsterdam cruise terminal is that it is so close to the centre of Amsterdam, it is quite easy to go in on foot without the need for buses.

Unfortunately that might change soon as the authorities there have said that they are going to move the terminal further away as the “pressure placed on the city by tourists is too great”. I do find this very strange to hear as surely the vast proportion of businesses in Amsterdam rely on as many tourists as possible to make a living.

The move wouldn’t be the end of the world but it would just be less convenient for cruise passengers who I read only account for 2% of the cities tourists anyway.

Although this is not great news it certainly wouldn’t put my off cruising into Amsterdam in the future.
