Our holiday on the Boudicca

If you saw my last blog two weeks ago then you will know we have just returned from the Fjords with Fred Olsen. It was a lovely holiday and i wanted to tell you a little about the ship.

The Boudicca is only a small ship, 462 cabins, 880 passengers and 329 crew.

We booked an anchor fare with Fred Olsen in an outside cabin so they allocated the cabin for us. We had cabin number 3097 located on deck 3. I was expecting a very small cabin but i was quite surprised at how spacious they actually were, bathroom was a little small but we could shower and use the sink easily enough so no complaints. As well as the wardrobe space below there was also another wardrobe located next to the bathroom door. Plenty of storage space. We could fit our suitcases under our beds. Amenities include a desk, telephone, television, hairdryer, air conditioning and tea and coffee making facilities.

We had been allocated a table of 4 in the Tintagel restaurant at the 8.30pm sitting. Staff in here were very friendly and attentive, very apologetic when they forgot Jon’s starter. We would eat in here for breakfast and dinner as like the Secret Garden cafe it was buffet, staff would assist if you would rather have waiter service.

The Secret Garden offers a more informal setting and a lighter buffet option to the Tintagel/ Four Season Restaurant. We ate in here quite a few times if we couldn’t wait till 8.30 for our evening meal. They had theme nights in here and also did a midnight supper club every evening between 11.00pm- 00.00am. This was very popular. In the Secret Garden Cafe they would also do Afternoon Coffee Service when you can have tea or coffee and a selection of cakes and sandwiches. I was a sucker for the jam and cream scones. In room dining was available between 10am and 11pm.

We didn’t book the all Inclusive as i don’t drink alcohol, or enough of anything else for that matter and Jon is happy with one or two a day on our holidays. The All Inclusive is £15pppd currently to pre book when you book your cruise. However it was £25pppd to reserve on board the ship. Your bottle of Ales like Bishops Finger would set you back £3.75, Can of Carlsberg £2.95, Glass of house wine £4.05, Glass of Pepsi £1.65 and Amaretto & Coke £4.85. The Lido Lounge was a popular spot for daytime activities like quizzes or Wii bowling, and they had music on at night.

Marque Bar provides deck service for drinks and also hosts the occasional deck party. We had one sailing out of Flam it was good fun. The Neptune Lounge is the main entertainment venue. They have entertainment every evening such as comedians, cabarets, dancing, concerts, lectures and more. Anthony Scott was the comedian on board and oh this guy was funny, especially to say he kept it clean. He did a later show one evening in the lido lounge.

The Iceni room had a self service coffee station. The observatory Lounge was lovely for something a bit more peaceful.

Tune in next time and i will tell you some more about the leisure facilities on board this ship.
