What can Cunard tell you about you?

If you’re like me and you love delving into your family history then this may interest you. For the first time ever, Cunard has collaborated with Ancestry.com, the largest online family history resource in the world. The line’s partnership with the website will offer guests the chance to trace their family history on flagship liner Queen Mary 2 while sailing across the Atlantic.

I used Ancestry.com roughly about 5 years ago and i’m really glad i did. With the help of my Nanna’s sister, we were able to track down distant family members who had also looked into our family history and had some lovely stories to tell us. During the Late 1800s, roughly 1887, my Nanna’s grand parents Louisa and Antonio were travelling on a ship from Italy bound for the USA. The story goes that Louisa was so ill on board she got off the Ship when it arrived in the UK and refused to get back on and Antonio got off the ship too with her to take care of her. Although it is likely true Louisa got off the boat because she was ill, it is very unlikely her parents would have allowed her to get off with Antonio as she was from Genoa North Italy and Antonio was from Venafro South Naples. During that time these areas were not fond of each other. That being said both ended up in the UK rather than the USA were they were heading. To think my family wouldn’t be here if they had continued their journey.

I would love to find out if it was a Cunard ship they were travelling on, as it turns out that Cunard played a vital role in the immigration movement to the USA during the 1800s. The 7 night Transatlantic crossing departing on the 4th November 2018 will give guests the experience of sailing across the Atlantic in the way that many immigrants, possibly even their ancestors did. There will be 4 genealogists from Ancestry to assist guests in learning who they are and where they come from. These experts will show guests where their family originated and how to sift through census and military records.

Unfortunately myself and Jonathan have other plans in November but i would have loved to be onboard for this sailing to try and learn more about my Italian ancestry.

Are you due to travel on this crossing? Or have you done these crossings before with Cunard? Like myself i’m sure others would love to hear your thoughts.
