How Far Is Too Far?

In March last year, I booked my holiday for November this year. At the time, booking 20 months in advance seemed quite strange and hard to get excited about. On the plus side, the cost of my cruise increased by over £700 per person over the following months and it has given us lots of time to plan what we are doing and to budget the holiday by booking trips, hotels and flights at different times rather than in one go. Also, it is nice to have something to look forward to. I have had a few holidays since last March to keep me going and I am a fan of last-minute decisions but for a bigger trip. I have enjoyed the build-up and am now getting quite excited.

Tomorrow, Regent Seven Seas are on sale for sailings up to June 2020 which is just under three years away and we already have a lot of interest in these itineraries. Royal Caribbean are already talking about their new baby due for launch in 2021 and many more new ships with a number of cruise lines are now planned for the foreseeable future.

Ultimately, it all comes down to why you have chosen your cruise. For me, I booked early as I wanted four weeks off and as my husband and I both work, we had to give a lot of notice of this. I booked a cruise today for a lovely lady to celebrate her birthday next year, so if you have a special occasion, you will want to know what you are doing. It is not unusual nowadays to book a wedding three years in advance so why not your trip of a lifetime?

So, are you a planner? How far ahead is too far? Do you pack weeks ahead, or does the thought of booking a holiday more than a few months aware scare you? Do you like to book early to get the best deals or do you think you will save a fortune leaving things until the last minute?
