Great Heights And Building Sites!

I have just returned from an amazing month-long holiday. We started with two nights in Hong Kong followed by three nights in Auckland and fourteen nights on board Celebrity Solstice cruising round both North and South Islands and calling in for overnight stays in Melbourne and Sydney. We then had an additional two nights in Sydney and two in Dubai before returning to the cold short days back home.

We had so many incredible experiences whilst away but the recurring theme of our trip seemed to be with us looking down from great heights and building sites.

Our first height was the famous view from Victoria Peak in Hong Kong which we took the tram to.

Next was the 220m high Sky Tower in Auckland with sections of glass floor to dare you to walk on.

In Tauranga, Bay of Plenty in New Zealand we climbed to the summit of Mount Maunganui at 732 metres.

Melbourne found us on the 88th floor skydeck of the Eureka Tower for great views over the city.

In my opinion, no trip to Sydney is complete without scaling the iconic Sydney Harbour Bridge. I am very lucky to have now done this twice and was presented with a special certificate as a “Bridgeclimb Master”.

Dubai next which has the Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest building and will shortly be starting an even taller project expected to be a kilometer in height! I visited Dubai in 2008 and it has altered incredibly and is still a big building site with constant development.

Auckland is in the middle of developing their underground system.

Sydney is currently extending their tram routes.

Saddest of all the construction sites is the re-building of earthquake hit Christchurch. I have never seen so many hi-viz jackets in one place and there is still a lot of damage with whole blocks missing from the city.

I have so much to say from my month away so there will be a few more blogs to come…
