Excursion in Kuala Lumpur.

When on a cruise most ships dock at Port Klang which can take anything from 45 minutes to over an hour depending on the traffic to reach the City itself. With most places of interest spread about we decided to take an organised excursion with Royal Caribbean. The description was just Batu Caves and City tour full day.

We set off 8.30 ish and had an excellent tour guide which gave us so much information, and arrived at Batu Caves in no time at all. Batu Caves are a series of caves within a limestone cliff around 13 kms from downtown Kuala Lumpur and one of the top tourist attractions. A very impressive sight to see and with the many troupes of Macagues monkeys begging for food and being very cheeky the walk up to the top of the 272 steps took some doing I must say.buddah

The massive gold figure is Lord Muragan and is at the entrance to the main Hindu temple with lots of smaller shrines scattered around. You pay no
entrance fee but are free to leave a donation at one of the many collection boxes. Shorts and short skirts are not allowed and I was supplied with a wrap to cover my kneesinside caveinside bud
It was far easier getting down than going up but was well worth the effort even in that heat.

Next stop prot towersthe famous identical twin towers, The Petronas connected by a double storey sky bridge which was built in case of a fire in one tower.
These soar to a height of 451.9 meters and are very modern and striking.

After lunch we then had the chance to go up the KL tower which is the 7th tallest freestanding tower in the world and was completed in March 1995.
It has an high speed elevator that takes you to a viewing area and a revolving restaurant. The tower also acts as an Islamic Falak observatory to observe the crescent of the moon which marks the beginning of the Muslim month of Ramadhan.

Last stop before returning to the ship is Independence Square a really pretty area right in the middle of the city which was once ruled by the British. Lots of Government buildings in old Colonial style mix with the modern. In 1957 people gathered in this area when Malaysia gained its Independence.inde sq

I am sure there are many more excursions but I did feel we got an overview of this modern city.
