Nautical Neil's Life on the Ocean Wave

A fantastic time on the Splendour

I have just returned from a weeks holiday on the Splendour of the Seas.  We cruised around the Greek islands and Dubrovnik and visited Kusadasi in Turkey.

I booked the flights with Royal Caribbean so that included the transfers to the ship.  As we flew from Birmingham we had indirect flights via Paris.  The flight times were perfect and no stress transferring planes.

On arrival to Venice there were a chain of RCCL representatives to guide us to our coach transfer (so we didn’t get lost)! Transfer time was about 25 mins however you could get an independent water taxi from the airport to the port about 100 Euros I heard or a standard taxi about 40 Euros or $70 depending on how you paid.

Embarkation was very smooth as I had already added my details online.  All they required was to swipe my credit card for my onboard account.

Staff very friendly and accommodating.  Our stateroom attendant announced himself to us and explained when he was available for any questions.

The cabin was roomy and spacious.  There was no fridge but Ice was available.  The bottled water prices were $4.95 per bottle plus 15% service charge.  Therefore with my past experience as being a crew member I knew we would buy bottled water in port as it is cheaper.

The bathroom was adequate and towels were available at all times.  The shower was spacious.

There was a slight humming from the ship when she was full out at sea but this noise was soon forgotten about (She is a reasonably older ship but you wouldn’t have noticed)

The room did have a hair dryer, much to my girlfriends relief.  As she is an American ship you do need to take plug converters.  There are 2 pin European sockets but no UK sockets.  We were in cabin number 2088 which was in a perfect position as the gangway to the shore was only one deck below us and we didn’t have to wait long for tender queues (more on tendering later).

All in all excellent room and position on the ship.
