Where Am I?

As you read this I will be hopefully sitting in the sun, glass of vino in my hand, watching the world go by.  Yes, it is that time again when my hubby and I head off on our annual summer holiday. This year we are only away for a week (as off to Tenerife in September).

Can you guess where I am?

It is called the island of many miracles.  It is known for the lovely beaches, an underground cave and lake, the tomb of Odysseus and Lord Bryan’s view.  Still stuck?  If I mentioned the film Captain Corelli’s Mandolin, would you then know?  Yes, I am in the beautiful Greek island of Cephalonia!

I have visited the Greek Islands many times but never been here before and as I write this I am so excited to be going. We are staying in a lovely hotel with only 8 bedrooms, right across the road from the beach and only about 10 minutes walk into the town of Scala.  The island is very well known for it’s beautiful scenery and of course history. In the second world war it was taken over by the Italians who used it as a base and as I love a bit of history I am looking forward to seeing if there is much from that time left!  It is also well known for the turtles nesting on its beaches. I have seen this before in Oman, would be lovely if we can experience it here.

Mostly though, I am looking forward to a break!  So, I raise a glass (or two) to you and speak again next week, when all of this will be a distant memory!

“Kalispera!
