Please, Don’t Get Caught Out

How many of you hand on heart, can tell me you have travel insurance when you book your cruise?  I expect there are quite a few of you who do not.

Your only real protection is good insurance so shop around, do not always go for the cheaper version as they may not include some vital cover which you may need.

Forgive me if you think I am preaching to the converted here, but you would be surprised at how many people “forget” to buy this vital component. Please buy your insurance as soon as you book, that way you will be covered for any cancellation you may make as long as it is under the insurance cover of course! Please check everything it includes such as cancellation and curtailment, medical expenses, medical emergency, baggage, travel delay, personal liability, emergency assistance to name a few.

There are a lot of people who think if they go to Europe, they only need a European Health Insurance card. This card only covers you for any medical treatment in state run hospitals nor does it include any repatriation back to the UK, please beware!

It is also worth looking at any exclusions on your policy. Say if your going to do a excursion and want to do a bit of bungee jumping be aware a lot of insurance policies will  exempt hazardous sports and activities. Or, what about if your pregnant?  You’re not going to be covered if your over 24 weeks, in fact you should not be on the ship to be honest with you!  

Norovirus, seems to be rearing it’s ugly head. Are you covered for this?  Were you too sick to go on a  prepaid, nonrefundable excursion? Did you pay to see the ship’s doctor? Those are valid insurance claims. Whereas if you’re stuck in your room feeling like death for a few days, there’s nothing to claim, since you didn’t incur any real expenses.

Lastly, please tell the Insurance company if you have a pre-existing condition such as diabetes or a heart condition. This will not make you uninsurable but you may not be covered for these conditions.
