Weather perfect, Shame About The Hotel!

Every year, around about this time, we have our holiday with friends, usually to Tenerife as the weather is so fab.  This year was no exception with brilliant blue sky every day, what more could we want.  Our friends are yet to be convinced that cruising is the way forward, they have thought about it but not sure it is for them.  However, after this year, they may change there minds.

So, if the weather was so fab what else could I moan about?  We try to pick a good standard of hotel, always no less then a 4 star, as you would expect 4 star service, along with furnishings wouldn’t you?  I am not going to name and shame the hotel in question, (and it is not this one in the picture either!) but let’s say it is part of a well known Spanish hotel group and leave it there.  It was most definitely in need of a re vamp that is for sure.  Carpets were very threadbare, the outside looked like it needed a clean and a new brush of paint, food was okay however, could have done with a lot more choice.  The bedrooms? We had what can only be classed as a hospital bed on wheels which was really uncomfortable. The bathroom was not great with broken tiles, and enamel coming off the bath. The saving grace was the pool area however on the first day, one of the children around the pool had a “accident” – and yes you guessed it, this was left by the side of the pool, eventually a orange cone was put by it, but not removed! Aside from the 2 huge cockroaches, in the dining area, we had a great time!

Holidays are what you make of them, I agree, and we did have a lovely time, we could only laugh at the things that went on there, and as we had each other to laugh with and the sun it did indeed make up for what was, lets face it not a great hotel.

So, I ask the question would that happen on a cruise? Not in a million years!  For a start, the ships are all exceptionally clean. If a passenger saw a cockroach at sea, would the staff just laugh it off? – nope!  Do you get hospital beds in your cabin? – Nope!  If a child has a accident does that go all day without been cleaned? Nope!  I really do wonder in amazement why people pay the money they do for a hotel when they can have so much better standards of service, food, entertainment, and accommodation on a ship.

Of course, I can not say all hotels are like the one I stayed in (thankfully) and I would love to “name and shame” this hotel but I wont – let’s just say I will be trying to get my friends on a cruise next year and leave it at that!
