A Guide to Shore Excursions – Durban

I’ve been really busy over the weekend helping lots of customers to book our amazing – Ultimate South Africa With Big Game Safari, Port Elizabeth & Mozambique Package. So, I’ve decided to base this week’s Shore excursion guide on the fantastic port of Durban.

Durban is the third largest city in South Africa and is famous for having the busiest port in the country. It is a sophisticated and cosmopolitan city and is extremely popular due to its subtropical climate and beautiful beaches.

Durban Shared City Tour

Here you will start your tour from the harbour and drive through the city viewing the impressive sporting facilities available on to the  Blue Lagoon area on the Umgeni River. Here you will have an opportunity to see the magnificent view of the whole Durban Bay.  The tour continues on to the beaches and Marine Parade (known as Golden Mile). You’ll then visit a selection of historical monuments before moving to the city centre learning about the history of the second railway station, Post Office, and City Hall buildings. A quick stop to the Indian Market before the final stop of the day at the Botanical Gardens

Valley of a Thousand Hills – Shared Tour

The Valley of a Thousand Hills lies west of the city and the scenery is purely spectacular! You will definitely not want to miss this opportunity. On this tour, you can enjoy a drive through the wealthy and beautiful Kloof area which leads you to the valley’s edge.You will then visit Sangoma and sample some of the famous Zulu dancing and cultural demonstrations before your final stops to a crocodile farm and a snake park.

Zulu Culture Shared Tour

This is one of my favorite options that I would love to do. Your journey begins with a drive up North past the subtropical coast and on to Zululand. You’ll then continue on to Eshowe for your first brief stop. Next, you continue your journey on to Shakaland! Here you will enjoy a delicious lunch and have the luxury of a demonstration of the traditional dance styles and social system of the Zulu peoples.This excursion gives you a first-hand experience of the traditions and cultures of the Zulus.
