Something for the weekend ……

Apart from working which I genuinely love and eating out which I too genuinely love ! there is not much else that I do differently in my life!!

However last weekend my partner said he had been given tickets to an event in Sutton park , he said he thought it was for some kind of play?! I must admit I wasn’t filled with excitement but he said we can take food and drink and sit and watch the event on around us , so my mood changed a little after he produced a mini picnic with a reasonable amount of gin and tonic!

I had worked earlier in the day and the weather had been lovely , when I had finished it was a little cloudy but I said I would take my coat ‘just to sit on’ , geared up in our summer wear with our picnic and gin , we made our way to Sutton park. Upon arrival at 6pm it became apparent we had left our entrance very late , it seemed people had been there for many hours enjoying the sunshine. And what had been described to me as ‘a play’ was actually a full on mini ‘proms like’ concert in the park.

It was packed!! and as we tried to find somewhere to sit we had to tread carefully avoiding carefully laid out full on picnics along with the hundreds of adults and children. Why didn’t I research this ? I thought to myself , why did I just listen to the ‘its a play’ and have been more organised.

We had arrived in an interval , so as we focused on finding a spare piece of grass for just the 2 of us , the show began to start again, it was no play … in fact it was Birmingham Symphony Orchestra performing for Concerts in the Park!

I have never been to such an event and probably would not have thought of going BUT it was a fantastic evening in the end , even though the moment I lay my coat down to sit on, the rain came !! I found that the short shower was helped by the food and gin and tonic and we got on with enjoying the performances. The atmosphere was great , people were friendly and enjoying the day together whether they knew each other or not.

As I looked around and people watched ( my favourite pastime) I realised the thing I loved the most about the day was the fact that people of all ages were thoroughly enjoying the day.

It was a nice feeling that just a simple day out in my local area bought people together and made you feel united.  It was an unexpected but great experience in the end , one that I will definitely repeat , however I will be a lot more organised next year.
