Hi , so last week I went on the Independence of the Seas for 2 nights. The first sailing for the general public since the refit. I was really looking forward to it , and it really was a perfect start to a great fun Cruise. The weather was fantatsic , perfect weather for the pools and hot tubs …. or even just people watching with one of Royal Caribbeans fine cocktails (my favourite thing to do!! I am very good at it :))
It was a really busy cruise and there was a real mix of clientele of the cruise. Personally I loved it , it was lively and in some parts quite loud. It may not suit some that are just wanting a lower key break to see what a real cruise may be like, but for the experience and the value for money it offers , it was a great break.
So after checking in at Southampton we made our way up to deck 11 it is the same deck as the Windjammer Cafe, Sun was shining and it was packed. Swimming pool , hot tubs, waterslides , music what more could you want in the sun!! The waiter service was fantastic if you didnt fancy standing in a queue for the bar. There is a large screen on deck 11 that was on in the day and then when we had walked around later in the evening , it was showing a film. Perfect for anyone to come and relax and watch a movie under the stars. 🙂
Sampling the Pina Colada Cocktails with my colleague Eliza (all for work purposes of course!!)
We got on the ship around 1pm and cabins were ready about an hour and a half later so not really too long to wait but it gives you chance to soak up the atmosphere or look around the ship.
We ate lunch in Sorrentos which is the pizza restaurant on the Royal Promenade the Pizza here was great , although tried to keep it to a minimum as we had an early dining time of 6pm. (Anyone that knows me and my love of pizza, keeping it to a minimum was a hard task!!) .. Another thing I want to point out is that I had purchased the drinks package. I am not the biggest of drinkers but like to try cocktails and have wine with my meal, looking at the costs of the drinks with the added tax it was definately value for money. The short cruise only worked out around £50 per day IF booked online before you go, it is more if you purchase on board.
My next blog will be about the Dining and entertainment we experienced on Independence, until next time…..
