Are we going to see another Boaty McBoatface?
I thought that I was reading things wrong when I saw the announcement on Wednesday evening by P&O cruises explaining that they are to leave the naming of their new ship to the public.
We all know how that went earlier this year when a similar idea was put out there to name a new Polar research vessel. Remember?? Yes thats the one, the Great British public chose to name
Boaty Mcboat face. Needless to say it was not named that – Instead they opted for the much better name RSS Richard Attenborough.
P&O New ship is due to launch in 2020 and accommodate 5,200 guests and weigh in at 180,000 tonnes.
The cruise line also explained at a press conference that their new ship will “bring the outside in” with a glass dome on top deck. The ship will also boast an atrium with a glass wall and a promenade deck that is half a mile wide that can be used for al-fresco dining.
The ship will have 17 places to eat, (including 7 speciality restaurants), 12 bars, 13 entertainment venues, 16 whirlpools and 4 swimming pools.
It is being billed at the “most ambitious and largest ship ever build for Britain.”
Other new features for P&O cruise line include a new Broadway show called “money makes the world go round,” a “destination led” gala menu from Marco Pierre White and swimming and fitness lessons on Britannia from Olympian Mark Foster. The Azura will see a new theatre show called “evolution” and Eric Lanlard will be bringing new desserts on-board.
It really does sound like exciting times for P&O Cruises
Apparently names already suggested for the new ship have been Boaty McBoatface (obviously), Shippy McShipface and Cruisy McCruiseface.
I personally think it it should be named Cruise With Lee 🙂
On a more serious note I think it would be good to see the name Artemis come back into the fleet.
What do you think? What would you name the ship?
