My Magellan Sailing…

Well, I’m just back from 8 nights on Cruise and Maritime’s Magellan, and I had an amazing time. It was hosted by Hayley, Ollie, and Amber and they did an amazing job. Let me tell you this time about the ship. Cruise and Maritime offer mid-size ships and they can get into ports some of the bigger vessels cannot. Magellan has 12 decks and can accommodate 1250 passengers. She’s predominantly adult only except for the odd multigenerational sailings. I was very surprised by the standard of service and the ship, in general, she by far exceeded my expectations.

I was fortunate to have an ocean view cabin on deck 5 the cabin with her been a slightly older ship they are really good sized cabins. Very spacious bathrooms and even though they have the dreaded shower curtain the shower area itself was big. The cabin has loads of storage space and depending on how the cabin is laid out i.e. Twin double there can be a lot of floor space. There is also coffee and tea making facilities which was a bonus.

Now the food well I must say it did not disappoint the standards are really high. The buffet which we ate in for breakfast, lunch and even the afternoon tea there was always plenty of choices and they had show cooking stations. Not sure how we fit it all, however, we did do lots of walking… There are two main dining rooms Waldorf and Kensington we ate in the Waldorf restaurant most evenings. We had breakfast a few mornings in the Kensington It’s nice to be waited on however allow extra time. The evening meal has a choice of 5 courses and it would be rude not to try all of them however not every evening I must say. Our waiters were ko ko lay and So and they went above and beyond, ko ko would recommend options for us and was always happy to bring something extra if you wanted to try it. They had two formal evenings and a Greek night where dancing took place and the traditional napkin waving. One evening we ate in Fusion this an Indian specialty restaurant which is part of the buffet restaurant screened off to make an intimate setting. At £14.90 it’s definitely worth visiting the food was very authentic and you didn’t go away hungry. If you took one of the pre-booked packages for drinks you could get reduction off this price I’ll tell you about the packages next time.

Deck 10 Columbus deck, is the deck with entertainment bars and the Spa. It features the two deck Magellan show lounge where they performed tribute shows such as Abba, Queen, and songs from the theaters, these are performed twice nightly. This deck had a lovely atmosphere with seating outside the bars if you wanted something a bit quieter. You could enjoy a drink in Sinatra’s wine bar whilst listening to a tune on the piano. Tavener’s Pub is next door has a typical pub feel with walls adorned with London images.. Next stop is the Captains Club here the entertainment goes on till late and has a fantastic atmosphere, we ended up here every evening. This also is the venue where you will find lots of daytime activities from bingo, quizzes, games, and line dancing to name but a few. There are lots of activities going on and something for everyone.

All the open spaces pool and seating areas were very well kept. The furnishings in all bars lounges and the theater were of a very high standard. They had an area at the back of the ship with lovely rattan sofas and beds, where you could relax they provided blankets when it was cool, however, could be a sun trap when it’s was shining, the perfect location for a sail away drink.

I visited the Jade spa, not for a treatment I just used the sauna steam rooms they had lovely heated beds for you to relax. Treatments were very competitive the feedback was really good definitely worth a visit even if you just use the sauna and steam room they are included in your fare.

I traveled with a group aged 18 upwards usually the average age is 55+, however, I was surprised that there were quite a few younger passengers on board. I would definitely recommend Cruise and maritime for all they classed as a 3-star cruise line the cleanliness cabin size, food and all the entertainment make her really good value for money and I would definitely sail on her again…

Next time I’ll tell you more and all about the itinerary and the amazing ports we visited. Any queries on Cruise & Maritime do not hesitate to contact me on 0333 300 2639 or email [email protected]
