Lauren's 'Strong' on Cruise

Are you covered…..

Travel insurance is one element you shouldn’t go without.

Here at cruise we ask the question when booking have you got your travel insurance in place. We also have a link for insurance on the bottom of our emails to holiday extras.

Most people don’t realise that you should make sure you have your insurance in place from the minute you book your holiday, as then you will be covered for cancellation. You may think that your insurance only covers from when you go on holiday well it does for things such as luggage, missed departure and money, however if you have to cancel due to a medical condition between booking your holiday and the day you travel if you don’t have insurance you could loose the cost of your holiday.

Be choosy with who use as your provider. Make sure that you look through the facts and be aware that often the cheaper policy’s have higher excess or don’t cover for things such as luggage, travel money and travel delay. The often have lower limits on what you are covered for to.

Make sure your honest and declare all your pre-existing medical conditions as not declaring can void your insurance. A recent survey found that as many as one third of travelers don’t disclose a medical condition or health issues for fear of travel insurance premiums becoming un-affordable. If your not completely honest you may end up paying thousands if you become ill with your medical condition whilst abroad that  you haven’t declared.

Some people think that they don’t need insurance  when going to Europe that they will be covered with the Ehic scheme. However this only provides cover for the equivalent of the national health, in the country your travelling to. In some of these countries they are expected to contribute towards medical cost so you could end up paying huge bills. The Ehic card  does not provide cover for repatriation, luggage or if you need to cancel your travel plans due to medical.

Whilst we cannot recommend what policy to buy hopefully this will make you think about insurance earlier and have it in place as soon as your holiday is booked….

Top 6 tips

Shop around for prices and cover BEFORE you commit to a holiday. If you have pre-existing illness, the insurance can be so expensive its almost the same as your holiday.

Buy your travel insurance immediatley after you have booked, do not put it off

Make sure your cancellation insurance is adequate for your trip. If the policy states the cancellation cover is up to £1,000 but your holiday costs £2,000 you are not covered for the full amount. Cheapest isn’t always the best. Check the policy carefully.

Check the maximum cover for single articles. If you are taking expensive jewellery, mobile devices or camera’s, these may not be fully covered either.

If you intend to travel more than once in a year, check out annual policies as these can save you £’s

Did you know – all travel insurance comes with a 14 day cooling off period.
