Jo’ Journal , this year follow me round America !!!

Happy New year to all !

Wow 2018 all ready time fly’s when your having fun. I love doing these blogs for you to read and this year I need your help !!!!

This year I thought I would be a bit different and learn along the way, Not sure if you know this about me but a do love the American Thrillers and Dramas , especially the NCIS, Law and Order, CSI and Criminal Minds (not forgetting the wonderful Walking Dead and Vampire Diaries). Some of the fabulous English police dramas too e.g. Death in Paradise. I wondered how I could check out all the fantastic areas, these wonderful programs have been filmed and still talk about cruising. Well this is my answer. I am going to make my way around the states and let you know about the wonderful things to see and do , and still have that all important cruise. On some of my journeys you will be able to cruise directly to the places and some a train or car journey may be involved but with help of our wonderful tailor made cruises and smart packages not to mention any thing bespoke you want me to do we will take a look at some of the wonderful settings for my favourite TV programs.

I do hope that you will journey with me and help me by sending any pictures you may have from your journeys, I will of course let you know where I am going next to help with that. And do feel free to comment and let me know your stories or anywhere in the USA you would like more details on.

So where to start,

NEW YORK !!!!

Well as my favourite show from the 80’s was the fabulous Cagney and Lacey , I thought I would start with there.  the show stars Sharon Gless and Tyne Daly as New York City police detectives who lead very different lives: Christine Cagney (Gless) was a single, career-minded woman, while Mary Beth Lacey (Daly) was a married working mother. the show was a roaring success and received 11 Emmy’s and 1 Golden globe award. Set in the midtown Manhattan.

Law and order and all the spin offs along the way are fantastic to watch and if you have never seen them there are plenty of episodes to go through.

C.S.I. New York is probably my favorite from 2004 to 2013 with a massive 197 episodes over 13 series, the cast is superb and my favorite being Mac Taylor (Gary Sinise) is a Detective First Grade and the director of the NYPD crime lab. (also extremely hansom). I love all the ways there are to catch people out.

New York city has such wonderful things to see my top 3 from talking to family, friends and guests would be:

1 :Empire State Building (if you go to the top you can see the surrounding areas and get a wonderful view of Central park. or try the rocker fella centre at night to see the empire states building all lite up.

This was my friend and colleague Florence on her Fam trip last year.

2: Central Park is a beautiful place to see in the middle of all the hustle and bustle of New York(I know many of the murders in the crime series that I love, take place here.) but do not let that put you off. Beautiful in the fall too.

3: The Statue of Liberty , she is there to welcome all into New York , I am told that sailing into New York on Cunard especially is a truly magical experience. (all ways reminds me of the films set in New York too! ) The statue is situated in Upper New York Bay on Liberty Island south of Ellis Island, which together comprise the Statue of Liberty National Monument.  Made from  Gold, Copper, Steel, Wrought iron. and weighing in at an impressive 450,000 pounds. She was a gift from the people of France to the people of the United States, was designed by French sculptor Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi and built by Gustave Eiffel. The statue was dedicated on October 28, 1886.   She holds a torch above her head with her right hand, and in her left hand carries a tabula ansata inscribed in Roman numerals with “JULY IV MDCCLXXVI” (July 4, 1776), the date of the U.S. Declaration of Independence.  The statue became an icon of freedom and of the United States, and was a welcoming sight to immigrants arriving from abroad. Can you imagine sailing into the harbour past this imposing statue ?
