Late flight back from Singapore? Stuck with your luggage?

Singapore is now a major cruise port and the main embarkation point for exploring Vietnam, Thailand and the rest of the Far East. However a wonderful week or two of sightseeing and relaxing can be easily spoilt by the final day as unfortunately the majority of flights heading back to the UK depart late into the evening, often close to midnight. Whilst Changi airport may be large the thought of disembarking your ship at 9 am and sitting at an airport for 12 hours  is enough to prevent many people from travelling to this area of the world.

Cruise lines will often offer an excursion on this final day with a drop off at the airport or alternatively there are some luggage storage facilities which are available allowing you to do your own sightseeing at a fraction of the cost.

Cruisefly is a service is offer by a company called SATS and they offer a luggage collection service at the Marina Bay Cruise Port.  With this service they will check in your luggage and give you your flight boarding cards so you just need to arrive at the airport an hour before you fly. This is all bookable on line advance and has been recommended by customers of Cruise.co.uk

Alternatively there are luggage storage facilities at both the port and airport. The airport is the cheaper option, charging just $4.28 / suitcase for up to 24 hours, although it is probably more convenient to leave your luggage at the port. The port charges $3.20/ 3 hours. The city centre, port and airport are all linked up and accessible by shuttle buses and taxis.

After a long day sightseeing and buying last minute presents the airport offers shower facilities at The Haven @ JetQuay, terminal 3. My customers paid $16.5 Singapore (about £9) each for a spotless room kitted out with a shower, soap and toiletries, towels and a hair drier. There is also the Aerotel Singapore at terminal 1 which offers rooms prebookable for a 6 hour period and may well offer shower only facilities too.

Singapore seems to be making real moves to make it easier for cruise customers to enjoy their city and travel home refreshed. Venice also offers left luggage facilities at the port and Barcelona in town, however it would be good if more ports followed suit.
