Happy Holidays?

Carnival Cruise Line have announced that The Grinch will be featuring on their ships this Christmas and I have to admit that I think this is a brave and foolish move.

If you haven’t heard of him The Grinch is a Dr Seuss film character who hates Christmas and plotted to steal it from the village he lived by. He was a nasty character and unloved until he as befriended by a young girl.

Carnival’s president Christine Duffy said: “The Grinch is an iconic and beloved Dr. Seuss character and we’re looking forward to incorporating his mischievous personality into our fleet wide holiday activities next month.”

He will feature across their Children’s Clubs with special “Grinchmas” activities which include Seuss at Sea’s Green Eggs and Ham Breakfast with the Cat in the Hat and friends.  There will also be Grinch face painting, story time and gifts and the film ‘How The Grinch Stole Christmas’ will  be played on Christmas Day.

Now this all sounds very lovely, but The Grinch is a scary character. I have watched half of the film but my son who was 7 at the time got too upset so we had to stop it before reaching the happy ending. I also have friends, including a couple of grown men that I work with who find The Grinch frightening.

I am concerned that instead of the festive holidays that Carnival and their guests are expecting, they may just have chosen the wrong character and are going to end up with a lot of crying kids on board.

Let’s hope I’m wrong.

The Grinch will be coming to Carnival cruising this Christmas.

The well-known Christmas hating character who learns to appreciate the festive season will be making an appearance fleet wide. He’ll be popping up to surprise children as well as those who are children at heart!

The Grinch (suited and booted in his “Santy Claus” outfit) will also be making appearances at the end of the cruise holiday shows where he’ll steal various items from crew upon the ship.

Children’s clubs will have special “Grinchmas” activities which include Seuss at Sea’s Green Eggs and Ham Breakfast with the Cat in the Hat and friends. An animated version of “Dr Seuss’ How The Grinch Stole Christmas” will also be played on Christmas Day.

Kids will be able to complete a “Grinch Good Deed Tracker” and get a certificate to prove they have done some good this festive season. There’ll even be Grinch face painting, story time and gifts.

Are you looking forward to seeing the Grinch on-board? Are there any other Christmas figures you’d rather see?

Will you be cruising this Christmas?
