Your One Stop Shop -The Elbe

We tend to speak about the more popular Rivers such as the Rhine, Danube, & the Mekong  etc but what the other lesser known ones,this week i’m going to talk about -The Elbe.

The River rises in the Czech Republic and flows into Germany and empties into the North Sea at Cuxhaven which is near to Hamburg.

Only one cruise and is offered by very few cruise lines which is a great shame, as it is a lovely itinerary- going from Magdeburg in Germany to Melnik in the Czech Republic or visa versa. Clients will fly into Berlin and back from Prague or the other way around. I would love to take a trip on the River and i’m sure you will want to as well.

Once on board you will visit all of these areas with so much fascinating history. Passengers will cruise through the limestone peaks of Saxon Switzerland and visit spa resort of Bad Schandau, if you go with Viking River Cruise you will also visit Torau, to see the monument that marks the spot where Russian and American forces met in 1945.

Visit;

  • Berlin- Capital of Germany where you can visit the museum at Check Point Charlie
  • Wittenberg- Birth place of German Priest Martin Luther
  • Meissen – World famous porcelain with tours to the factory
  • Dresden- History galore from World War II a stunning place to visit
  • Prague – The capital, dont miss the Jewish Quarter where a Hebrew clock runs counter clockwise

Who Goes There?

  • CroisiEurope – not a very well known cruise line but  good reviews, include all meals, and all -inclusive drinks.
  • Noble Caledonia – Known more for tours and expeditions rather than cruises, but still very good cruise line.
  • Saga Cruises – Known to be very welcoming to seasoned & past passengers.
  • Shearings – Coach travel and flight options with this cruise line
  • Titan – Who also offer home to airport pick up on their products
  • Uniworld – My favourite of all the cruise lines who offer The Elbe 6* standard
  • Viking River Cruise – Who you may know from T.V. adverts.
