Eating Tarantula & Meeting La Marguerite.

LA MARGUERITE

We all met in the lobby of our hotel the SOKHA ANGKOR RESORT  and had to register to join the La Marguerite

again quite early between 7.30am-8.30am. this was to be the first time we had

met with our travelling companions who had paid for the Mekong sailing, all of the clients were Australian

some had also just joined the tour, some had joined at different stages.

Lady at the market selling Tarantula.

(KFC).. Khmer Fried Crickets.

The port where we would join La Marguerite was Prek K’dam. The coach journey would take around 5 hours

Our first stop was at one of the local markets selling food, this was also the stop where the delicacies

TARANTULA  AND KHMER FRIED CRICKETS  (KFC)  were offered, well when in Rome !!!!

Tony the tarantula smelt horrible a bit like roast chicken, I bit off some leg and just eat it as quick as I could

gagging like no bodies business but you’ve got to do it haven’t you?, you can buy as many as you like a long with Crickets.

The journey was long, but really really fasinating, the houses, the smells, the views from the coach I loved it.

Our journey was coming to an end and I think were we all pretty pleased it was a  long time on the coach

at last Ma Margurite was in sight. We all clambered up the gang plank & headed for the reception, our keys & some instructions were then given out to us.

Once sorted we made our way to our cabins, I had a balcony cabin which I shared with a girl from my group she was from another agency.

La Marguerite was built in 2009 she has French Colonial Elegance, tastefully decorated and including a gift shop!

the cabin was beautiful, a huge power shower in the bathroom, large mirrors and electric points wth very large cupboards.

Our room had 2 huge single beds and high off the floor !! The balcony you could go out and stand on but not big enough

to sit out on  no chairs outside are provided.

Two Twin beds.

  • Full size flat screen tv and dvd
  • Portable radio’s for your tours
  • lots of cupboard space and large wardrobes
  • Tea & coffee making facilities
  • Hairdryer
  • Telephone
  • Fan
  • Air conditioning

It was tastefully decorated and very very dark wood, the ceiling was engraved with lovely carvings giving an even better appearance

Sadec  Deck (Sun Deck) –  there was plenty of sun beds for everyone, a small pool also a bar which was open pretty

much all day and until the last guest leaves at night, you could help yourself  to free tea & coffee there too.

This was also the deck where the Spa/Sauna were and hairdressers (always busy)

The small pool on SADEC (sun deck)

Saigon Deck (Upper Deck) – One deck and you have the Saigon Lounge which is where we would all meet in the evenings

for our talk and instruction for the following days  tours, when you entered into the lounge in the evening you were given a

free cocktail of the day or you could have non alcoholic cocktail too. The lounge also hosted parties and theme nights

and demonstrations so it was a good busy little hive, with a good sized dance floor and impressive overhead lighting.

This is also the deck where we have the library, well stocked it was  as too, a good selection of books and board games.,a very

large tv and free WI FI permitting you are in a good location to get the Internet !!!

Tonale Deck (Main deck) – The lovely restaurant, frequented early morning, lunchtime and in the evenings

buffet breakfast was served in the morning, lunch was a mixture of buffet or you could have the waiter service

and evening was just waiter service. The good thing about river cruising is the single seating for dining which means

you can sit where you want and with who. I liked it and so did everyone else really it worked very well, as you met and found

new friends you could join them and visa versa, a much for friendlier way of cruising than you will find on larger ocean going cruises.
