‘We are Premier League’

Although my first great love is Cruising………..my second is football, my beloved Cardiff City to be precise! I’m thinking maybe I should have put my wife and children in here somewhere but they will understand! As a season ticket holder i’ve been a little distracted over the last few weeks as we have been fighting for the second automatic promotion spot to the Premier League!   It’s been a close fought battle with Fulham and it went down to the very last game………the 46th game of the season.   We just needed to match what Fulham did in their away game at Birmingham but if we beat Reading it didn’t matter what they did we would be up.  As it happened our game finished 0-0 and Fulham ended up surprisingly losing at Birmingham!

The main thing is we were up.  We’d defied the odds and made it to the promised land.  On sunday the club had an open top bus parade from the Cardiff CIty Stadium to Cardiff Castle to celebrate promotion.

Those who have followed my blog over the years may remember a similar blog in 2013 when we had just been promoted, but that turned out to be a season to forget. Many of you who follow football will probably remember that our owner decided to change our kit to red against the wishes of all Cardiff City fans, after all for all of our history we’ve played in blue and are know as the Bluebirds.  So that season just went from bad to worse and we eventually got relegated back into the Championship.  This time around though with our ‘marmite’ like manager Neil Warnock we’re going up as a happy family as he’s done a fantastic job considering we were at the bottom of the league when he joined us 18 months ago.

It means a lot in my family as my dad was a professional with Cardiff back in the 50’s (before money spoilt it) and I can remember in the early 80’s always being allowed in the players bar after matches as he still knew people at the club. Now me, my dad, my sons, my brother and nephew continue to support the club we’ve grown up with.  The atmosphere at the Reading game was amazing and i’m sure when we play the likes of Liverpool, Manchester Utd, Manchester City, Tottenham, Arsenal etc the atmosphere will be easily as good.  And who knows we may just surprise a few people next year and again defy the odds and stay up.  Whatever happens we will still be there supporting them even if we’re back in the Championship the year after.

Now i’ve got to wait for the fixtures to be released in June and i’m hoping we don’t get one the so called big teams first as I’m away for a fortnight in August and it’ll be just my luck to miss a cracker!!

Sorry if i’ve bored you with this blog but maybe now you football fans are looking for a cruise now the season is over before the World Cup starts in June.  Call me if I can check something for you.
