…… and is it really that important? There are rumours abound that the name of Royal Caribbean’s newest Oasis Class ship, due to be launched in the Med in Summer 2018, has been revealed as Symphony of the Seas.

Quite simply, River Cruising is my passion, my favourite type of cruise. i have been lucky enough to do five river cruises to date and the next one can’t come soon enough. Top of my river cruising bucket list has to be the Mekong, gliding through Vietnam and Cambodia – one day I hope!

Goodness, time is certainly flying isn’t it. I can’t believe we are well into February already with January having flown by in the blink of an eye. To be honest it’s always the same for those of us in the cruise industry, this is such a busy time of year for us as this is the best time to bag the bargains so clients are booking hand over fist. You turn round twice and suddenly it’s Easter!

Most of you will be well aware that here at CruiseDot we are more than happy to tailor make a cruise to absolutely suit your requirements be it a complete land tour to compliment your cruise or just a couple of nights either end of your cruise to allow you to make the most of your embarkation and disembarkation ports which you wouldn’t otherwise see.

I hate to have to admit it but, like so many other people, I am a big soap fan and love following Corrie and Eastenders, even if they drive me mad sometimes, and before you ask, no I am not old enough to have watched Corrie from the start, quite.

2016 has been a miserable year in many ways what with celebrity deaths by the dozen and some awful tragedies around the world and I have seen many posts on social media saying that people cannot wait to see the back of it and hoping that 2017 is a much better year all round. If ever a year was under pressure to perform, 2017 is that year. It has to deliver, end of, and I certainly hope it does.

As I sit and write this I can’t believe it’s twelve months since I wrote a pre-Christmas post. Where has 2016 gone? Never has a year flown by so quickly. I mean, one minute we were in the last throws of a glorious summer, the next we were in the run up to Christmas. Autumn didn’t really seem to happen at all did it? And if the weather forecast is to be believed this will not be a white Christmas, wind and rain is on the cards apparently which is a shame, you can’t beat a white Christmas to get you feeling all festive.

Well Celebrity are certainly moving and shaking at the moment with a big reshuffle planned. After eight extremely successful years sailing out of Southampton during the Summer season, Eclipse is heading off and being replaced by her sister ship Celebrity Silhouette from 2018. Eclipse has been a favourite with UK cruisers but I have no doubt that Silhouette will be welcomed and will prove as popular as Eclipse for the duration of her time here. I must say I can’t quite understand why Celebrity are swapping from one ship to another which is virtually identical but no doubt they have their reasons and as I say, cruisers can be assured of the same excellent cruise experience on board. There are some exciting and varied itineraries planned, ranging from 7 to 14 nights and as well as the Med, she will be sailing to Ireland, Iceland and the Azores, amongst other places. Nice to see some new itineraries from Celebrity.

I am, and always have been, a massive fan of Strictly Come Dancing. What’s not to love? In this mad world we live in, with such terrible events happening almost daily it seems, Strictly gives us a fabulous ninety minutes of escapism every Saturday night – it is joyful and entertaining. Wonderful music, sparkly and glittery beautiful costumes, and a fair amount of comedy too. Every year there is a contestant who might not be the best dancer but their ability to entertain us none the less is certainly not in question. I refer, of course, this year to Ed Balls. Who would have known that this somewhat stiff and starchy previous politician had such a huge ability to entertain? I didn’t see that coming!

Sadly for many people going on holiday is nothing more than a pipe dream due to their mobility requirements and the amount of equipment they rely on to help them need a normal life, however, help is at hand and yes you really can go on the cruise of your dreams. Mobility at Sea is a wonderful company that you can just ring up, order the equipment you require and when you arrive on board you will find it all set up for you in your cabin. Easy as that!
