And they say size isn’t important?!!

Well, when it comes to cruising it seems that everything is getting bigger all the time, not to mention more technologically advanced, more environmentally friendly and more cutting edge. But with all these mega-ships being launched it seems that size is everything.

Everything on cruise ships seems to be on a grand scale and with this in mind, while going through some old photos a couple of weeks ago I came across a photo that made me chuckle, a photo that I might have posted on this blog before but skimmed over so I thought I would do it justice by giving it it’s own post – it deserves it!

Now my friend Sue loves a pudding, fact. She has never knowingly declined one in her life, will force one down if necessary, even if she is full to overflowing and more often than not, one just isn’t enough. There cannot be a pudding that she hasn’t sampled however, she loves nothing more than the humble trifle. Back in 2014 when we went on our memorable 50th birthday cruise, the first thing Sue had to do whether we were in the main dining room or the buffet was inspect the pudding options. Of course, being an ex UK cruise with Royal Caribbean, there was always a ‘something with custard option’ in the buffet. While the rest of us were securing a table Sue would be off to find out what the days offerings were, with custard. All other puddings were duly inspected too. You will note I call it ‘pudding’. Sue being Yorkshire born and bred eats pudding, not dessert!

So on our final sea day, picture the scene as we walked into the buffet restaurant for lunch and in the entrance was the most enormous bowl of trifle you have ever laid eyes on. Sue nearly went in head first! Restraint was called for and we managed to force her to eat a main course before heading to the trifle – two dishes she came back with! Mind you, there was more than enough to go round as you can see.

I’ve been on many ships over the years and been lucky enough to experience some amazing and delicious food but just sometimes its the simple things in life isn’t it? Good old British trifle!

Happy cruising Folks! Until next time………
