Give PEACE a chance……….

In the words of the late, great John Lennon…..”All we are saying is give peace a chance.”

As the news started to filter through of the horrific happenings unfolding in Spain yesterday, my first thought was, not again.

In the last few years there have been terror related attacks in London, Manchester, Nice, Paris, Brussels, Berlin and Stockholm, as well as the beach attack in Tunisia and various incidents in the USA.

For many years my wife and I had many happy holidays in Egypt. However after the poor souls who lost their lives when the Russian plane was brought down, and the recent issues in Hurghada, it does not sound so attractive. But we will go back again, the people are so friendly, and it`s an amazing place to visit, full of culture and history.

We will be visiting the wonderful city of Rome later this month, on our latest Thomson cruise, and I have to say that the events of Barcelona and Cambrils have made me think. However, we cannot live our lives in fear, we must carry on regardless, not letting them win.

There are lots of beautiful places to visit on our planet, and no-one should be afraid to do so. Many people around the world rely of the money generated through tourism, to be able to support their families. Without us, how would they survive?

The current world population is 7.5 billion, as of this year, and maybe it`s naive of me to think that we will all get on with each other, but if every single one of us makes one new friend, maybe that day will come.

Now, I know that the people of Barcelona will carry on with their day to day lives, it`s just human nature to do so. It`s a city I have never been lucky enough to visit, but I will go there one day.
