Leicester City – Take A Bow

Completely un-cruise related blog this week due to what I consider to be one of the most amazing feats in British sporting history!

Yes last night, last seasons relegation threatened Leicester City were handed the Premier League title down to second placed Spurs being unable to beat their London rivals Chelsea despite a great effort.

As a Manchester United fan myself, I am obviously disappointed the title is not returning to it’s spiritual home of Old Trafford, however from a sporting point of view it’s a real David vs Goliath story, on account of the sheer amount of money spent by the bigger clubs, only to be eclipsed by the sheer spirit and team ethic shown for an entire season by Leicester City.

I remember 20 years ago or more when Blackburn Rovers did the same, and that was amazing, but the league now is much harder, affluent and defined by the bigger and richer clubs, such as both Manchester teams, Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal.

It’s refreshing to see the title go elsewhere, and to be done in the way it was really is an exceptional feat of sporting history.

I’m also pleased for their journeyman manager, Claudio Ranieri, who has not had a great time of it the last few years, and had also never won the league title in any of his jobs. However it seems all that experience has added up finally, and he will now go down in the history books, especially in the city of Leicester, for being the man who managed the impossible!

On a slightly more travel based note (since I am a travel agent), this should do wonders for the city too – they will be entered into the champions league, the most prestigious tournament in European, and perhaps World club football, so they will be bringing in travelling fans from various parts of Europe which will really put Leicester on the map – they have a great opportunity to capitalize on this I reckon! Plus it should also bring money into the area which is hugely important for local business, and will be fantastic for the people of Leicester.

Anyway a massive congratulations to Leicester City, you have indeed made history, and brought hope to the entire sporting world, and for that we salute you!

Thanks for reading my blog guys and as ever, until next time…………….
