Busiest day in history for Newcastle Port!

Last Tuesday saw the busiest day on record for Newcastle’s port, with 4 ships and a ferry docked along the Tyne bringing in a  record 10,000 passengers to Newcastle on Tuesday 16th august 2016! This is fantastic news for local attractions, shops and businesses in general with such high footfall this brought extra revenue to the area included a high number of coaches taking passengers to the likes of Alnwick Castle, Hadrians Wall, Durhams Cathedral, Lindisfarne and Beamish Open Air Museum. The weather was kind to the tourists too!

The four cruise ships in port were;

Holland Americas newest and largest cruise ship the Koningsdam which carries around 2,650 passengers and launched in May 2016 was sailing across from Amsterdam on a 14 night voyage

AidaVita, The German owned ship  carries around 1,266 passengers and had started her cruise journey in Kiel.

Regent seven seas luxury ship the Voyager, this is a 6* all inclusive cruise liner carrying just over 700 passengers and was on a longer voyage, with some guests onboard for the maximum cruise duration of 22 nights.

Cruise and Maritimes smaller ship the Astor, carrying just over 600 passengers.

And then a DFDS ferry King Seaways joined the brigade of ships too.

Newcastle is a fantastic port to visit with so much to do for all ages, from local sightseeing, shopping in Newcastle centre, local villages along the coast, plenty of bars and restaurants for a spot of lunch and of course a glimpse of the Angel Of The North!
