Britannia Transatlantic Adventure

On the 11th March 2017 myself, husband David and our 2 year old Alfie flew out to Barbados to board the P&O Britannia ready for a 13 night voyage sailing back to Southampton.

We flew direct form Birmingham with Thomson to Barbados, straight form the aircraft on waiting coaches ( Or Rickerty Caribbean buses you could say! ) straight to Barbados cruise terminal. The Queues were long! Be prepared, but as soon as we walked into the terminal a friendly staff member spotted we had a young child and sent us straight to the front of the queue which was wonderful!

We were staying in an obstructed view balcony cabin on G deck mid ship, G328, which was absolutley fine, we had the sofa bed for Alfie, the obstructed view didn’t bother us in the slightest you could still see plenty and we had some fantastic morning and evening views sailing in and out of our ports of call.

Our first port of call was Dominica where we headed of on a  land train tour, followed by Tortola where we headed off for a walk into town as we had done an excursion last time we visited, then onto St Maarten one of my favorite islands! We had a plan here which was to head to the beach as you can walk there form the ship! this was followed by 5 days as sea before we called at Ponta Delgada in the Azores, which I have to say has absolutley nothing there! Then our next stop was Southampton. I will go into more details on our ports in my next blog post.

We chose first sitting for dining because of Alfie and this worked perfectly, some evening was a little rush to get there for 6.30pm but we made it! Food was always excellent, this has to be one of the main pluses form this trip, we didn’t experience 1 bad dining experience from breakfast through to dinner always fantastic food and great for children too, they have a separate child menu in the main dining room and children can choose pretty much whatever like like burger, nuggets, hot dogs, omelettes, chicken breast, smiley faces, past, various vegetable,s beans, the list really is endless.

Unfortunately Alfie didn’t take to the children’s facilities, they can join from the age of 2 but he was the youngest they had so he wasn’t to keen, he went once but decided not to go back! If your children are into it the children’s clubs are fantastic though, they have soft play and every toy you could imagine! if Alfie was maybe a year or 2 older i think he would have loved it!

We didnt venture out to any of the theatre shows unfortunately so cannot comment on the evening entertainment, we just enjoyed a drink after dinner and then an early night most evenings, you know how it is chasing after a toddler all day!

The crossing from St Maarten to Ponta Delgada was so smooth, we never had any rough days during the crossing and the weather was beautiful. Many customers worry the crossing will be rough but ive done this trip twice now and both times had a fantastic smooth crossing so never let this pout you off booking a transatlantic!
