Emily's Cruise Essentials

Naughty Fortys

This week my blog isn’t about cruising or people complaining about the wrong cabin assignment, or or even to high light on a popular port of call. Instead it is to share with you my recent milestone 40th birthday which I celebrated last Saturday (the 4th of February). My birthday celebrations began on the Friday with a my friend who also recently turned forty by spending the day at Cadbury House Spa. It was a lovely day of relaxation, wine drinking, steam rooms and hot tubs, and did I mention wine drinking. You can’t beat a full bodied glass of red.

On the actual morning of my birthday me and my family went to Frank & Benny’s for an american breakfast. The cherry on the cake were the waiters bringing me my Eggs Benedict with a candle in singing me Happy Birthday. I loved this and it was a fantastic start to the day. The rest of the day was spent at home with friends visiting who also included my BFF who was days a way from giving birth had made a special effort too. I was spoilt with a beautiful necklace from my closest friends and lovely card made of old photos of us together. Something I will treasure for ever.

In the evening I had booked a function room and invited around sixty guests to come help me celebrate. DJ Janice was brilliant and really got the party started.  Everyone had such a good evening and its nice to get together in our busy lives.

Without sounding too mushy it was nice to reflect back on my achievements and all things I have accomplished in my forty years. I am happily married (ten years last year) and have to amazing son’s who are the centre of my world. Not forgetting my cockerpoo Buster who I love dearly and like nothing more than taking him for walks.

Later on in the week my friend gave birth to a beautiful baby girl, Anya who has been long awaited for and I can not wait to meet her in person. Life is too short and sometimes we need to take stock and look around and be grateful. We are a very lucky generation and fortunate in the holidays we  go on, places we see and the people we meet.

Here’s to the next forty…….
