Are Room Keys a Thing Of The Past?

The latest technology available in the near v=future on Royal Caribbean is facial recognition. the latest technology is already functioning on Allure of the seas and oasis of the seas and will be found on 13% of the fleet.

So what does this mean?

It means passengers can now check in really quickly thanks to their pre loaded photo, open their cabin doors without a keycard and a luggage tracker will monitor their bags and send them an alert once the luggage has arrived to the cabin. Is this a step too much or is it something we will embrace as this is the way of the world and technology is always advancing?

However it doesn’t stop there. Passengers can stream their own content to the staterooms television and use their personal device to control the lighting, room temperature and even the curtains. This can be managed by a touch screen or voice commands. I know this will be impressive for the majority but there’s probably still a few who would prefer to just get up and close the curtains themselves. It all sounds futuristic but as i previously said the world is forever changing and always improving the gadgets we have now. Who would of thought you could see and talk to aunt Lizzie in Australia live at the touch of a button. It is pretty amazing.

The Excalibur app will also allow you to create personal activities and there are videos to watch so you can experience shore excursions and dining experiences beforehand.

I imagine other cruise lines will gradually follow suit but I don’t think Cunard or Fred Olsen would. But that’s just my opinion.

I would be interested to hear your views as to if you think this is exciting news or if it would feel you with dread?
