Yes you read this right, Cunard’s ship the Queen Mary is undergoing a multi million pound face lift in dry docks (Blohn+Voss Shipyard) Hamburg, Germany. This renovation work will take approximately 25 days, this is due to be completed by the end of June 2016. This is to be the biggest refit ever undertaken by Carnival UK.

The renovation works will bring everything in line with the same standards as the worlds finest five star hotels.

The key to this refit is adding 35 staterooms, which are being installed on Deck 13, 30 A2 club balcony cabins  measuring 238 SQ FT and five standard inside staterooms measuring 153 SQ FT. Adding these extras accommodation will require slight structural change to the ship by adding 150 tonnes to the ship.

Research shows that there is an increasing number of multi generational groups wanting to travel i.e parents, children and grand-parents together.

For all you single travelers out there, they are adding 9 183 sq ft single ocean view cabins on deck 2, which will be amazing as there is never enough single cabins these days as so many people choose to travel alone.

The Queens Grill and Princess Grill suites will also be having a complete refit during these renovation works. The Queens Grill and Princess Grill restaurants offering more tables, increased space between tables for privacy. They are having a new colour scheme to offer beautiful and elegant dining that will compliment White Star Service.

Did you also know, that Cunard is the only cruise liner to offer dedicated Kennels on their transatlantic crossings, currently they can carry up to 12 dogs and cats but because demand is high, during the refit they are adding an additional 10 kennels for our 4 legged pets.

The revamped Queen Mary 2 will make its official North American debut in Brooklyn on 6th July 2016.
