When is the best time to book a cruise?

This is one of the questions I get asked on more than a handful of times a day!

Traditionally, I still go with the book early option. In years gone by, the Cruise Lines have offered a good incentive to attract the crowds in early. Some even up to 2 years in advance of the sailing date. Things like a early bird discount, reduced child fares etc.

But is this the best time??

When considering any large purchase, whether it be a new car, Holiday or even a new Washing Machine, most of us would do a bit of research. This would generally include trawling showrooms or superstores to spending a few hours online. Once we get an idea of what we want, we can usually put a budget in our heads based on the research we did.

With that in mind, you head to your agent with this budget in mind and low and behold the cruise you want is spot on your budget. You seem chuffed with yourself that you managed to stay within your budget and it was exactly the cruise you wanted.

BUT,  then instead of planning your trips and wardrobe for every day, what do you do? Keep checking prices and offers…

Cruise lines have to market their product like any business out there. The BOGOF offers, Free flights entice customers at different times of the year and promotions tend to change every month. So being asked when the BEST time is would really be down to the customer and what ‘offer’ attracts them. If you are happy with what you have been offered, then its a good deal.

What can be annoying to many if when the cruise they are booked on drops a lot in price or has a drinks package added on to it. Do you ever question your agent about this? I have in some cases been able to change over the cruise to the better promotion so it is always worth asking.

Booking ahead also gives you the pick of the bunch. Would you be happy to have the leftovers by waiting until the last minute? Price’s don’t often get reduced during busy holiday periods so what are you waiting for. Get those plans confirmed early and have the pick.

Low deposits are always on deals if you book early enough too so gives you the time if you need to save up and spread the cost on other things.

I hope this has been a helpful guide

Until next time!
