The Young and Lively go River Cruising

Over the last few years we have seen a vast reduction in age groups in the Ocean cruise market with introductions of family orientated ships with the most amazing facilities ever experienced at sea to entice those to try cruising as its now not only for the ‘older’ generations. As more ships are introduced year after year, we see the age brackets slowly reducing as more and more families see for themselves what all the fuss is about.

River Cruises on the other hand have been more targeted at those more middle aged with perhaps a grown up family looking for a more laid back approach until now that is!

So what next then? It seems that a River Cruise Line has decided it wants a slice of the cake and is introducing two ships targeted at the Millenials

Uniworld, which as far as River Cruises go, is one of the more luxurious lines out there and is set to wow with two rooftop venues, a spa, mixologists, international DJs, communal tables for dining, and farm-to-table cuisine.

Both ships itineraries will begin in April next year with prices starting as little as £159 per person per day and will sail along the Rhine, Main, Danube and Seine Rivers with overnight stops and longer stays available in major cities.

They are planned to spend extended time in the cities to allow the youngsters to experience the nightlife.

I personally think its a huge step to take and maybe not the right one either. The ships look dark and gloomy from the outside and a bit like the mat hatters tea party from Alice in Wonderland in their interior design.

Is this not just a bit of a fad? I;m not sure the market is quite ready for this and surely those wanting and expecting the serene countryside only to berth next to a party boat.

Only time will tell and from April next year we will see.

Would appreciate your thoughts on this news

Until next time
