Oceania cruises. 6 star???? I would say 5.5.

I was lucky enough to have been given a free tour and lunch onboard Oceania Nautica. I am very lucky where I live in Southampton. It is very easy for me to get to the port so I can sample these cruise ships for the day. Although you don’t get a true reflection of what it would be like to sail onboard you do get the background history, a tour of the ship and lunch. This gives you a good insight that you can pass on to your customers.

I have been on many 4 and 5 star ships however never a 6 star so I couldn’t wait to compare. I will give you a bit of an insight in the different aspect of the ship and you can make up your own mind.

The ship itself: Nautica is one of the oldest and also one of the smaller Oceania ships. This isn’t something I would generally go for however I understand everyone is different. What I didn’t realise before I got on board is that it is owned by the Norwegian cruise group who also own Regent. Since being bought out by Norwegian they have spent hundreds of millions refurbing it to bring it up to oceania standards. For me though I felt the decor was slightly dated. There was a lot of dark colours and mahogany that went out in the 90s. There was no doubt it was elegant I would have chosen something a bit more modern. If you go on one of oceania’s larger ships this is what you will get.

The Cabins: The cabins were a good size. I was lucky enough to see the suites which were ideal if you have a few thousand pounds spare. Again in previous ships I have been on I have seen similar and bigger cabins. I would have expected more.

The destinations: As this is a smaller ship it is able to get into a lot or ports that the bigger ships cant get into. Oceania price themselves on the destinations they offer covering every continent. They also offer a lot of over night stays giving you that extra time to explore.

Food and drink: Save the best until last. Oceania spend more money on food then any other cruise line out there and this shows. I had lobster and caviar for starters followed by a filet steak with fois gras and truffle oil. It definitely beats Turkey dinosaurs. With regards to the drinks all soft drinks including tea and coffee are included. Unlike most other 6 star lines you do have to pay for alcoholic drinks. These work out about $55 per person per day.

In conclusion. In My opinion it is not a six star ship although you are not paying 6 star prices. If you are looking for a good standard ship with great food and excellent itineraries then this is the cruise for you. I am hoping to get on one of there larger ships soon so I can compare.

Has anyone been with Oceania before I would love to hear from you.
